After the Medical Surge Event: Promoting resilience and identifying risk factors for the development of traumatic stress

 

This 1-hour lecture is designed to discuss psychological after-effects for children, adolescents, and their families associated with experiencing a traumatic event.  Learning objectives are as follows:

·       Define psychological trauma

·       Recall best practices for promoting resiliency and supporting families after a traumatic event including a medical surge event

·       Understand the impact of medical trauma for pediatric populations

·       Describe risk factors for the development of acute stress disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder

·       Identify evidence-based resources and organizations for additional learning and family support
