Mary Ellen Palowitch MHA, RN

Mary Ellen Palowitch is the EMTALA technical lead and a hospital program analyst in the Division of Acute Care Services of the Survey and Certification Group at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in Baltimore, Maryland.  Mary Ellen works collaboratively with internal CMS components and the CMS Regional Offices as well as Federal partners, State Survey Agencies, hospitals, associations, consultants and others on a variety of hospital and EMTALA issues.  She joined the Federal government in 2010, assuming the role of EMTALA lead in early 2012.  Prior to coming to CMS, Mary Ellen worked as an emergency department nursing director.  Her nursing experience includes numerous staff and leadership roles in hospitals and an ambulatory surgery center.  Mary Ellen attended the University of Pittsburgh and University of Phoenix for her BSN and MHA degrees.
