Mentoring: Tips and best practices for mentors
This webinar will cover tips and best practices for mentoring, in order to establish a strong mentoring relationship and keep it going. Tools and resources will be introduced which can be used during each phase of a mentoring relationship.
Presenter: Brenda Nickol, MPH, Director of Career Services at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Public Health
Brenda has served as the Director of Career Services at UNMC’s College of Public Health (COPH), since December 2012. Ms. Nickol’s passion for public health was sparked when designing an HIV education curriculum in Zimbabwe in 1999. That experience led her to pursue a Master of Public Health degree in global health from Emory University, and conduct several research projects in Mexico. Since that initial experience, Ms. Nickol has worked in the areas of maternal and child health, health equity, HIV prevention, health impact assessment, qualitative research, healthcare preparedness, quality improvement and injection safety.
A native of the Pacific Northwest, Ms. Nickol initially came to Omaha in 2006 via a two year field assignment with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Ms. Nickol’s experiences at the local, state and federal levels have all prepared her well for advising COPH students and alumni. Ms. Nickol has learned how to navigate various academic, governmental and practice systems, and truly enjoys helping others do the same.
